Reading My Blog Differently
Since I have moved this blog to it’s new home here at edte.ch I have noticed a significant change in the way that you, the reader, explores my content. It is all down to the scrolling banner at the top.
The banner is part of my theme Mystique and can be switched on or off in the settings. I can set it to display a random set of 5 posts from any category. I decided that I wanted to make a new category called “Featured” so I can have a range of posts appear in the banner. I needed to reorganise my categories anyway so I went through and added the category to those older posts that I consider still useful.
I immediately noticed in the blog visitor statistics the individual page loads had really increased. Here is the data from my old blog.
Although the chart range is different, here is the data from this new space.
You can see the page loads have shot up and that is all down to the simple little banner. I have always struggled with the best ways to highlight to readers older posts that are still relevant and useful, such as our Google Docs work. This certainly seems to be helping and I hope you enjoy some of the older things I have written about.

Always happy to share my ideas in whichever form they take – it has become a
part of what I do as a teacher now. My only wish is that I had more time to
be able to write about them – I do what I can but there is always about 10
posts/ideas in draft form waiting for me to catch a minute.

I couldn't agree with stephcampbell more. I wish I could be a student in your class, Tom. As it is, I'll settle for looking forward to your Tweets and exploring your projects to see what's new. Thanks for all your hard work and for sharing your unique ideas with us all!

Hi Tom
I have been following your blog for most of this year ( southern hemisphere) and I didn't think I could be more impressed but that banner has done it. I have my laptop set up at home in the kitchen and can't stop flicking to your site to see what is new. I teach a range of classes in a small New Zealand school and am very excited about using google apps. Your entries are very informative and non techy. I have found myself exploring using your banner and not realising the depth of your blog! Is the banner a feature only gained on an edtech blog?? Keep up the fantastic work and I'm sure there will be a lot of New Zealand teachers logging on in their christmas break as I have been singing your praises loudly to colleagues around the country. Keep up the great work.
