Disqus is a comment system which overrides the native one in the theme and I
think the share this/print feature is either part of that or the theme
itself which is Mystique. Hope that helps.

Hi, I’m interested in what plugin you use for the disqus comments and the share this/print article function on this blog.

Finally have the time to take on the challenges. Here is my WallWisher ideas.
My three ideas for using WallWisher.
    1. Just created a wall for my son who is getting married soon. Thought it would be nice to have a place for people to write their well wishes.
    2. Created a wall for keeping track of my candy survival kit resources. I’ll take pictures of the finished products and share them.
    3. WallWisher is a great tool for brainstorming ideas. In this one I’ll invite people to share ways that they use Web 2.0 tools such as this one!

Hi Katie thanks for taking the time to share this with me – I have added it
    to the Prezi resource.

  • http://twitter.com/katieogilvie Katie Ogilvie

Prezi Meeting is fab!! I’ve used it to put groups of up to 10 students together to work on revision for GCSE and A Level. All the students in the group work on the prezi at once – it helps if you have already put on a template that they can add to – perhaps some form of learning map. Each student has a little ‘me’ on screen, and you can follow a chosen one and see how they are contributing to the ‘meeting’.
Here’s a link to a double bubble film comparison. http://prezi.com/peoa5mmdinrt/film-studies-2-double-bubble/
The meeting link stays live for one week – so the students can continue to contribute for homework.

I am a couple of weeks late in the Teacher Challenge, but wanted to contribute ideas for the Wallwisher portion of the challenge. I have a wall with student book reviews (that was suggested in the powerpoint presentation). I am in the process of doing one on Women’s History month and African American History month. Students put the most interesting information they discover about the subject of their reports on the wall. Would also be a good way for students to sign up for report topics. They see who/what others are reporting on so there are no duplications or to help them find a partner(s) in a group project.

Lime Design Associates (www.limedesignassociates) is currently working on a project with Microsoft Corporation. We are looking to interview teachers from India, the UK, South Africa, the Netherlands, and the US on the diverse ways mobile technology is used to support educational practices. Teachers who are interested in participating (their school would receive a $100 donation for their participation in the interview) can use the following link to complete a one-minute screening questionnaire.

Tom. Great blog. I’ve followed you intermittently, even on the old one. I think I’ll take your suggestion and experiment with putting up some Google maps on the school home pages on my site. But, since performance is a huge issue for us, I need to be careful about adding performance issues.

BTW, have you ever looked at my site or tried it with your kids? Please, give it a try. If you like it, give us a write-up. If you don’t, send me an email (mayor@..). LOL. john, mayor of spellingcity.com

I am responsible for the Teachers’ Centre of virtualmuseum.ca in Canada and I am developing a scenario for a short video on how to use social media in a classroom. Would you mind if I use some of your examples (mentioning you of course)?

Hi My name is Katie and im Studying Primary Teaching at Edith Cowan University in Perth Western Australia, i recently discovered your blogs on using technology to Help your students with maths, as im doing an assignment for my technology unit. The basics of my assignments is to explain the benefts of using tecnology in maths to students from Kindergarten to Year seven. I was wondering if you could give me your oppinion on it and why you think it helps engage students better than simply doing textbook work and when you started using more technology in your lessons and wat types of technology you use. I have gained alot of information already from your blogs already.

If you could help me that would be great.
    Thanks

I recently purchased the new Wii Endless Ocean Game and a Wii Speak for my 7th grader. Is there a classroom that we could connect to where he can interact with other students? As homeschoolers, we try to make his education as interactive as possible. Any ideas would be greately appreciated.

This is such a great idea! That said, I'm having trouble figuring out the best way to get these to work, particularly the jump (#1) activities in Madrid Measures. Does anyone have any screencasts? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for this great resource!

    Hi Tom
First: thank you very much indeed for your blog. It's been a source of excellent ideas, links and inspiration for this practising teacher, such as it's hard to find in our sadly over-regulated target-driven world of education. Selfishly, I really hope your promotion to management doesn't get in the way…

Heartily sick of our learning platform (slow, featureless and poorly designed) I fell to wondering about plugging the gap between it and future plans to build our own moodle-based site. Google Apps seems to be the answer.

    * How did you go about setting up (from your end)?
    * Did you face much resistance from your LA?
    * Do you think really need a VLE if you are using Apps?
    * Have you come across any security issues?

A brief anecdote will serve to illustrate the point:
I've been using Kaltura's Management console to re-direct Youtube videos onto our learning platform – Kaltura gives you a nice player complete with playlist and isn't hit by filters… also it also has no onsite video outlet apart from embedded players which can be tucked safely behind a password . I updated a playlist, copied the embed code and pasted it to a nice new page on the VLE. It didn't work. I retried several times with no luck. For consolation I turned to the “experimental” Google site I've been playing with to see if it encountered any problems. It had already updated its video player…

    Hope to hear from you

Your 3 educational ideas are great. I love the Storybook Earth – it makes so much sense. I had the same idea about Connect Collaborate Content years ago before all the social media and Web 2.0 and made it. It's My eCoach http://my-ecoach.com.

We have over 15,000 members, 50,000 resources and projects, builders that let members collaborate and embed Web 2.0, tags that link people, resources, and projects, teams for coaching, surveys, quizzes, coaching and reporting tools, and more. This has been my passion for over 12 years. I'd like your feedback to see if this is kind of what you are talking about.

Hi Tom, trying to encourage a group of pupils in my Business Studies classes (ranging from S2 to S6) to put together an online business magazine focusing on all different areas of business. The main aims are to a) increase awareness and enthusiasm of business outside of the classroom and b) to focus on improving literacy and getting pupils writing for enjoyment. Obviously difficult to generate traffic, especially in its infancy when the pupils need most encouragement. Any ideas how to do this?

You can see the first couple of articles they have published at http://mralexanderspupilblog.blogspot.com/

    Hello Mr. Barrett,
I already once had contact and posted an idea on wordle. I have a question. Is it possible, that I can have access to all of your good-ideas presentations on google docs? I have some in my folder and everytime if there is a new idea I can see it, as it is showing up bold. But there are some that are just only copys, but they dont become updated. Hope you will understand what I am talking about, as my English is just basic and poor :(

I would love to have access to all your presentations in google docs. Is this possible? So that I can see if there are any new ideas? With some it is possible and I can see that there are latest entries or changes, but I have not access to all your good presentations. Hope you can understand me, as my English is just basic and poor :(

Thank you in advance and best regards

Tom, Teachmeet and your involvement in it ahs changed education. Lots of people might not agree but this grass roots approach to propopgating the use of IT in education, is hugely important. I may not be a teacher or possibl;y even an 'educationalist', but after 20 years in the edu business I know change when I see it!

    Hi Tom,

I managed to get to your blog via Teachers TV. While I was watching the programme the pupils were collaborative work in maths involving times tables. Can you direct me to the site.

  • http://flatworldschools.blogspot.com/ Rhonda Carrier

    Tom,
I am researching information to update a course at Beacon Educator: http://www.beaconeducator.com/

I would like to add a link from the course, Enhancing the Classroom with Technology, to your google doc, Ways to use Google Earth. It is an excellent example of the use of google docs for collaboration – and of course, good examples of uses for Google Earth.

I’m just beginning work on the course, so it won’t be updated for several months, but the content and links on it should remain active for a year or more from when it goes active. Would you mind if I link to your google doc and will the link to Ways to Use Google Earth remain active? Do you at some point remove or “unshare” docs, that would result in an invalid/broken link — or will the google doc remaining live and shared with everyone?

Thank-you for your continued help and contributions,
    Rhonda
