humAIn
A learning community for educators to connect and explore our humanity in the age of artificial intelligence
Why You’re Here and Why It Matters
You’re not alone if you’re feeling overwhelmed, anxious about the pace of change, or uncertain about where to begin with AI for education.
We’ve spoken to countless educators and know that grappling with how AI reshapes teaching and learning is a complex challenge.
This isn’t just another tech trend. It’s a seismic shift that challenges our humanity and educators’ role and raises serious questions for the students we support.
Traditional guides and resources are no longer sufficient. We’re dealing with more significant questions, higher stakes, and an uncharted landscape.
In an emerging mixed, immersive and augmented AI world, our humanness will matter more and more.
So, if you’re wrestling with complex questions, disoriented by the fast-evolving AI landscape, or simply asking, “Where do I even begin?” — you’ve found your community.
We might not have all the answers, but we have created a community to explore the questions together.
from the humAIn community team.

“Being human is not a thing; it is a process. The way to make sure that we are human is to have teachers who teach us how to be human”.

Our Community Goals, Your Journey
- Create a sanctuary for learning: humAIn is a sanctuary for emergent thinking, offering a curated, more deliberate dialogue where educators can make sense of the complex issues surrounding AI.
- Elevate your AI Literacy: Elevate your understanding and implementation of AI for education to ensure we are ready to lead and not just be passengers.
- Develop cognisance of your humanness: Being part of this learning community will support your awareness of humanity, what it means in an AI context and how to teach for it.
We know these primary goals will lead to positive second-order effects:
- Amplify Educator Voice: Together, we can ensure educators’ voices are heard in a landscape disrupted and shaped by AI.
- Create A Healthier Learning Ecosystem: We bring together diverse perspectives on AI for education, all committed to building something greater than the sum of its parts.

DIALOGUE SESSIONS
Your community think-tank
Dialogue Sessions are guided explorations of recent updates, dilemmas and scenarios we face with AI for education. These live community sessions are a key way we learn together and respond to current events.
Every fortnight, the community gathers for a member-only Dialogue Session. You will have the opportunity to pose questions, share your ideas and build your AI literacy alongside your peers.
Our Dialogue Sessions are structured around the principles of collaboration and dialogic learning. These sessions serve as a group exploration of the influence of AI in education.
LIFTING EDUCATOR VOICE
Go further together
This professional learning opportunity is not just about outstanding curated content – we are learning together in a supportive community environment.
Unlike a static course or PD day, humAIn will evolve and adapt to the changing landscape of AI for education. This also is an invitation for you to shape the dialogue in our community.
From our experience of learning communities we know the connections we make with other members is often the most enduring benefit.
A key to understanding our humanity in the time of AI is to raise our self-awareness, how we connect with others and what it means to be in a community of supportive peers. Learning is also way more fun together!

Dr Sophie Fenton
Human-centred Strategist and Educator
As a researcher and strategist with Amicus, Sophie has three areas of focus that each speak to each other. The world of work is also a place of learning. Education has, as one priority, to prepare today’s learners for tomorrow’s world of work. And within the workplace and education context, emerging technologies shape experience, present opportunity and pose challenge.
Sophie is passionate about human-centred education and supporting teachers and leaders to educate for humanness so that people can live well in an AI world worth living in. With over 20 years experience in teaching & learning, education design and innovation, she has a PhD in education that explores designing learning for human experience in a world of emerging intelligent technologies.
Applying this thinking to the emerging workplace and futures of work, Sophie works with clients to understand the ethical implications of these intelligent technologies and customises solutions to enable a thriving workplace.
Applying it to the education context, she works with leaders and teachers to implement the transformative pedagogies through a human-centred lens.
With experience and expertise in strategy, ways of working, teaching and learning, education design and AI ethics, Sophie offers a unique blend of knowledge and skills to help shape the future of learning.

What people say about the humAIn team
Gerard Foley
Principal at Ivanhoe Grammar School
“Steve is an outstanding educator“
He is innovative, has the capacity to effectively lead a team, and is constantly looking at ways to improve student learning. One of Steve’s most effective traits is his capacity to manage change. He has this innate ability to bring people along with him and to excite and empower staff in the process.
Professor Andrea Chester
Emerita Professor, RMIT University
“a remarkable skillset”
I have come to know Sophie as an exceptional educator, leader, innovator, and human. Her vision for Urban School was underpinned by her credibility as a distinguished teacher, her courage and her creativity. She demonstrated a capacity to think expansively while navigating complex political contexts, all the while engaged with the day-to-day running of a school during COVID. She is evidence-informed and strengths-based, always working from principles of compassion, inclusion, and ethical practice. But what really sets Sophie apart is her deep capacity to connect at a human level. She brings a remarkable skillset to any initiative.
Dr Neil Hopkin
Director of Education at Fortes Education
“make a difference”
I have worked with Tom in many different contexts and cultures. In every case, he has contributed significantly to my own thinking, and also that of my teams. His work and his wisdom do indeed ‘make a difference’.
Deborah Sukarna
Educational Consultant
“a modern day digital native”
Steve refuses to accept the ordinary and is an exceptional and inspiring leader with an outstanding degree of integrity and initiative. He leads ‘by doing’, inspiring staff to ‘have a go’ and ‘break new ground’. He is a modern day digital native in every sense of the word, living and breathing everything he asks of our staff. He encourages our teachers to experiment with original ideas and his positive nature develops confidence in even the most fearful of technology.
Catherine Newton
Deputy Head of Senior School
“a beacon of inspiration”
I had the privilege of working closely with Sophie on two transformative projects in my previous school setting, and her exceptional leadership in the field of education was a game-changer for my team. Sophie’s deep expertise and visionary guidance were instrumental in our AI curriculum initiative, enabling us to navigate the complex landscape of emerging technologies while instilling a strong ethical foundation in our students. Sophie is a beacon of inspiration for any educator seeking to navigate emerging technologies within their practice.
Nicole Flanagan
Principal Project Officer QLD
“shape a collaborative dialogue”
Tom was extraordinary in his ability to work with both members of the leadership team and teachers to shape a collaborative dialogue. I would highly recommend Tom as a person who can partner with you to identify and shape opportunities, outlooks and mindsets that will change the way you approach the work you do.
