If we were in a session, you would notice I don\u2019t sit back \u2014 if I have ideas and there is space for them, I step up and explore them together. These are often just signs of my curiosity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/miro.medium.com\/max\/1400\/0*9omHKueHA0PwhDUj\" alt=\"\"\/><figcaption>Photo by&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/unsplash.com\/@trandafir93?utm_source=medium&amp;utm_medium=referral\">Alexandru Trandafir<\/a>&nbsp;on&nbsp;<a href=\"https:\/\/unsplash.com\/?utm_source=medium&amp;utm_medium=referral\">Unsplash<\/a><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"8dd3\"><em>Dialogic coaching<\/em>&nbsp;is about learning through dialogue \u2014 an important distinction between mentoring, facilitative coaching or consulting.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"3ab0\">Here David Bohm paints an image of meaning flowing between us.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\"><p><em>\u201cDialogue\u201d comes from the Greek word dialogos. Logos means \u201cthe word,\u201d or in our case we would think of the \u201cmeaning of the word.\u201d And dia means \u201cthrough\u201d \u2014 it doesn\u2019t mean \u201ctwo.\u201d The picture or image that this derivation suggests is of a stream of meaning flowing among and through us and between us.<\/em><\/p><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"f5ba\"><strong>I spend the majority&nbsp;of my coaching in this stream. Let\u2019s see what that means if you were also getting your feet wet in a session with me.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"3b0e\"><em>\u27f6 We participate as equals and share the thinking space<\/em>&nbsp;\u2014 we create a better understanding by sharing ideas and thinking aloud.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"bc33\"><em>\u27f6 I don\u2019t sit back<\/em>&nbsp;\u2014 if I have ideas and space for them, I step up and explore them together. Far from a fixed answer, these are often just signs of my curiosity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"a899\"><em>\u27f6 We work the challenge together<\/em>&nbsp;\u2014 I understand the need for responsibility in coaching, and you might need a support partner to work things out.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"808b\"><em>\u27f6 Someone to bounce off<\/em>&nbsp;\u2014 coaching with me is a creative process often involving problem-solving. We bounce ideas and questions off each other.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"5255\"><em>\u27f6 I guide you to action<\/em>&nbsp;\u2014 we surface new insights during coaching. I believe clarity comes from action. You commit to the next steps. I hold you accountable. Repeat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\" id=\"704e\"><em>\u27f6 The stream of meaning reflects how we change<\/em>&nbsp;\u2014 we consider the process and reflect on what works. We look up and downstream.
