NCSL Primary SLICT

We are pleased to be hosting this leadership course next week. The school will be visited by a group of school leaders from across the region to explore the ways we have worked with ICT at Priestsic. The course has been very enjoyable in the past and we look forward to meeting some more colleagues next week.

The course is described on the NCSL site as being:

Designed by school leaders, the Strategic Leadership of ICT (SLICT) programme gives school leaders the tools to draw up a strategy which places technology at the centre of learning and teaching. The programme combines analysis of key issues and school visits with thinking and peer discussion. The Primary SLICT programme has been specifically developed to address the needs of primary school leaders.

It will be a good opportunity to engage these school leaders about social media and the role they may consider it to play in the leadership of edtech in schools. I certainly will be talking about how my blog and further network has impacted on my day to day work.

Please help contribute to this discussion by answering the following two questions in a comment:

  1. In your opinion what is the most important aspect of successfully leading ICT / Edtech in a school?
  2. Why is a personal learning network of professionals important to classroom teaching?

Join in the debate and let us know your thoughts – the course is being run on Wednesday 23rd January.

SLICT Host Day

Today was another opportunity for us to welcome headteachers from around the UK to our school and to talk strategically about our use and implementation of ICT, via the NCSL SLICT programme. We had five colleagues from Birmingham, North and South Leicestershire, Milton Keynes and London.

It was exciting to be able to talk about blogging and the use of wikis which was brought up in the previous day’s workshops. I was pleased to be able to realistically demonstrate how these new read/write tools may impact on the classroom. (By the way “wiki” is taken from the Hawaiian word “wikiwiki” meaning quick, hence you can quickly add your own contribution to this sort of web 2.o media)

It was another successful day and both Dave and I would like to thank our visitors for the positive feedback that they gave us before they left. We hope we can support and help in the future with your own school’s ICT challenges.

NCSL / SLICT Day

Today we once again hosted headteachers taking part in the Strategic Leadership of ICT (SLICT) programme from the NCSL (National College for School Leadership). This will be about the 3rd year in a row we have hosted for the event. We had seven visitors with us this morning from different schools around the UK. We are always happy to welcome colleagues to our school, so that maybe they can learn from our experiences.

Much of today’s talk was centred on our development, over the last 3 years, of interactive whiteboards in each classroom and what strategic lessons we have learned from that process. But we did also begin to explore the “next big thing” – and we discussed how new technologies will be making an impact on what the future curriculum will look like.

I did give out this blog address, so if there are any of today’s visitors reading this I do hope that all went well with the rest of the day and the very best of luck with your future ICT plans.
